Day 35: Set Up Website Home Page

Today we're going to focus on making sure you have your home page setup.

Think of your homepage as a directory. In most cases it will be the first page that people land on and it should do a good job of directing them to where they need to go.

If someone lands on your website and wants to see examples of your previous work, the home page should effectively direct them toward that page.

If someone lands on your website and wants to learn more about you, the home page should do a good job of directing them to that page. So on and so on.

Every home page should have a few main components.

  1. The header
  2. A summary, bio section
  3. A teaser of your projects that has a CTA to explore more
  4. A link to your resume

A few important points about your home page

  • It should show your personality! Unlike LinkedIn, that has a very professional tone, your website is your environment. It's okay to be less professional and let your personality shine!
  • When you link to your resume, be sure that it's a "web-safe" version of your resume. We strongly recommend creating a new version and taking out your mailing address.
  • If you need a place to host the PDF of your resume, upload it to Google Drive and get a shareable link, use that link on your website.

Here are just a few awesome personal websites that you can look at for inspiration!
